Brent Walker: Music

New Road

(Brent Walker)
I was walking up a hill today
Waiting for the sun to rise
Just like it did yesterday
And every day since there were skies

But the road that I was on was rough
And it was tearin up my feet
And I knew if I stayed on that trail
Pretty soon they’d start to bleed

So I said

Take me down, take me down the new road
I don’t care for bein on the old road
Take me down, take me down the new road now
There’s no place for me on the old road
It’s not safe, it’s all dark and cold, so
Take me down, take me down the new road now

The trees that grew on that old road
Made it difficult to see
With the leaves on each side of the path
Takin turns to slap my cheek

Now I heard the new road’s rockier
And it may not be as wide
But there’s a lamp for me to see the ground
And I’ll be following a guide
